Back in Eidfjord
I'm in Norway and race day is coming closer! We had a relaxed travel from Germany up to Norway with a short stop at Lensahn to cheer on Hårek (founder of Norseman) who was doing his first triple iron distance! He finished as nr 12 and has all my respect for that tough success! In the evening we went by ferry from Hirtshals to Larvik and stopped at Jørgen’s place in Stavern to have breakfast and a very nice swim in the Norwegian sea. We loved it… same with the blueberry smoothies we were served afterwards by Jorgen.
Now we're back in Eidfjord, in my favorite apartment where I stay every year. It has a big balcony with a roof where you can sit and drink tea and read books even if it's raining. The best way to collect some energy for the big day. Yesterday we went biking on the course in the sun and wind fascinated by this beautiful landscape again. Its hard not to look around, even on race day! Right now the weather seems perfect for a race but the forecast for Saturdays is “slightly” different and instead of waiting for the sun I'm always prepared for the worst: rain the whole day and headwind. Right now it seems like it could be my toughest Norseman if you believe the forecast about weather and tide in the fjord. I don't care about that, my worries (as every other Norseman competitor) is only that the mountain has to be closed due to bad weather conditions. But these things we can not control, now we can only sit and wait. We had a nice swim in the fjord and right now it's not even cold (someone told us around 17-18°) – it was just perfect! But I learned already that with just one day of rain and water coming down from the glacier this could change completely.
So.. now it's all about the waiting for race day. I could not imagine a better place than the apartment in Eidfjord for that! Looking forward to my parents coming around tomorrow to support me like every year and every race I do.
