The "old road" is open!
We have just received notification that we once again are allowed to use the "old road" up Måbødalen from Eidfjord to Vøringsfossen for the race.
In 2010 this was closed and the main road with tunnels was used. Regional and local authorities have evaluated the road quality and the surrounding risks and concluded that the road is safe to use with certain conditions.
As this segment of the course is one of the most beautiful, spectacular (and tough) parts of the whole race, we are really happy for this decision.
That said, with heavy rain or other extreme weather conditions before or during the race, the road may close on very short notice. If this happens we are back on the “new” road with greatly increased demands for visibility of the athletes.
When you pack for your journey to Eidfjord please make sure to bring lights for your bike and a reflective vest. Lights have to be both a red light for rear and white in front. Failing to have this available if we have to use the “new” road will prevent you from starting. In any case it is recommended with both vest and lights for the first part of the bike ride up to the plateau even if the “old road” is used.
