The elite seeding!

We have distributed about 250 slots. As usual, we made changes from previous years. This time we made changes due to the huge interest and due to the need to reduce risk. All 37 female applicants got their slot. We had a race director’s quota for local participants, participants from sponsors, media, travel agencies, the crew, 8-timers and so on.
We distributed 50 slots to male elite. This was done only to reduce the pressure at “the pack”, for higher security in the traffic and improved logistics in the lift. Elite slots were given based on merits. We asked for merits and “translated” these into expected best possible results at Norseman at neutral conditions. We were surprised by the high performance level of the elite applications. The rest of the slots were selected by lottery.
Please be aware that we DO NOT expect all the seedet 50 to do Norseman at sub 12 hours 40. But we consider that the seeded 50 all have merits that corresponds to doing Norseman at neutral conditions at 12 hours 40 minutes or faster. We are totally surprised by the high level of the elite. Again, we are very sorry for all those that were not given a slot!
