Media Brief and Accreditation (Mandatory) - Friday 1 August 18:00.
All accredited Media physically attending Norseman Xtreme Triathlon are required to attend the Media Brief, which will take place Friday 1 August at 18:00 at Vøringsfoss Hotel, Eidfjord. During this meeting, you will receive race relevant information, the responsibility you hold as Media, the rules and regulations you need to follow.
Your accreditation can be picked up at the Media Brief.
Where to stop during the race? Understand the rules and the risks you pose.
Together with the support teams, which follow each Norseman athlete, media the biggest risk to Norseman. For each additional person we issue accreditation, the risk of injuries and accidents increases. You are subject to the exact same traffic rules as support. We therefore ask you to read the Race Manual over and over again, so you know the rules by heart.
Rules during race day
Race Marshals and the police follow along the course. Support receives warnings and or penalty for the athlete. We do not issue warnings for the Media. If you engage in behavior that is not in accordance with the rules, we will withdraw your accreditation and you can leave the race. This race is not for you. Our athletes' safety is our most important priority.
The following behavior will withdraw your accreditation:
Violations on traffic rules.
Driving behind athletes, even though it's possible to pass - for more than 30 sec.
Not parked on the right side with all four wheels outside the white line during the bike.
Filming outside/from trunk/from roof of the car or any gear outside car while driving.
Communication with athletes while driving.
Supporting athletes. This will also give the athlete a penalty.
Access to Ferry & Media Boats
Due to limited capacity on the ferry, don't expect to gain access. Your chance is better for the Media Boats. Requested access to the media boats will be communicated during the Media Brief.

T1 & Swim Exit
With your Media vest and badge, you are allowed to enter T1 and Swim Exit.
Show consideration for athletes and support. There is a high tempo in this area.
Drive from Eidfjord directly to Dyranut(36km)
Måbødalen, the valley from Eidfjord up to Dyranut, where support starts, is a narrow section, with several tunnels. Athletes, support, crew and Media share a majority of the road in this section of the race. This is where the risk of accidents and injuries is at its highest.
It is therefore strictly forbidden for the Media to stop before you get to Dyranut (Approx. 36km) After Dyranut, you are allowed to stop where you want, as long as you follow the rules.
The only exception is if you have written approval from the Head of Media, and have received information about where you have been given permission to stop. If you see other media cars stopping before Dyranut, don't even think about it. It's not for you.
Recommended Areas to stop during Bike
Hardangervidda: Dyranut (36k) to Haugastøl (60k)
Imingfjell (135k to 142k )
After you have passed Sønstevann Dam (142km), you will reach the Imingfjell Plateau.
Support is not allowed to stop after this point. You are, but only according to the rules.
After 150KM, there is a parking spot on the right side. After this spot, the course is steep, and the athletes will bike at high speed. Therefore, after the parking spot on the right side at 150km, drive directly to T2.
Stop during Run
During the run, you are allowed to stop on both sides of the road, but always with all four wheels outside the white line. During the Run, the athletes are very tired. You could be too. Use your brain. Verify your decisions. Drive carefully, adjust your speed according to the conditions.
Recommended Areas top stop during Run
T2
First View of Mount Gaustatoppen: 19k
Zombie Hill: Starts at 25k. Drama at Cut-off Stavsro (32k)
Athlete 160 vs 161 / Entry Gaustatoppen.
Black Finish Line Gaustatoppen
White Finish
You can park your car at Stavsro, if you are walking up the course to black finish. If not, park at Gaustabanen, where you can take the elevator up.
Access to Elevator to Black Finish
Drive to Gaustabanen. You can park your car there. Enter the Ticket Office, and buy a ticket(both ways).
Bring your vest and badge, this is your priority to gain access faster to the top. Media has only priority up, not down. The lift runs about every 20 minutes and takes about 20 minutes. Plan approx. 1h from the time you park, until reaching the finish line. Bring warm clothes and plan according to the weather forecast. Be prepared to walk down from the mountain again.
The elevator will be shutted down if thunder and lightning appear, which happens frequently.
Access to Mountain from Stavsro
If the weather allows it, we recommend walking from Stavsro to the black finish line. You will follow the exact same route as the athletes, with stunning images and beautiful landscape. Bring warm clothes and plan according to the weather forecast. It will take approximately 2h hours walking to the top. The trail is well marked, but there are a lot of rocks and it's steep at the end.
Drone
In Norway, you are generally allowed to fly in the open category if you are registered as an operator.
The only exception is Raceday in Eidfjord. Saturday August 2nd, the airspace is restricted by the authorities. NOTAM warning will most likely be visible on commercial drones as well. Only approved Drone Operators are allowed to fly in Eidfjord during Raceday.Violating this, may result in a report or fines. In addition, you risk having your equipment confiscated. Violations of aviation safety can be reported to the Civil Aviation Authority for further follow-up.
If you are a citizen of an EU country (including Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) and wish to operate a drone in Norway, you must:
Be registered as a drone operator in your home country.
Have a valid EASA certificate for the relevant subcategory.
(The Norwegian A1/A3 course and exam are available in English at flydrone.no.
The Norwegian A2 course is also available at flydrone.no, while the exam must be taken at a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office in Norway. Everything is available in English.
Mark the drone with your operator number. You can also use a QR code containing your operator number. The number on your pilot certificate is not valid as a marking.
Have valid liability insurance. There is no distinction between flying for recreational or commercial use.
Follow the rules of the open category.
Check if drone flying is permitted in the area before taking off.
The authorities do not allow landing/taking off of drones on the county road itself.
This must take place on a suitable side area of the county road.
If you follow these rules and have a permit, you can fly a drone during Norseman at your own risk and responsibility.
