Norseman is as much a journey for the people cheering as it is for the athletes on the course. Here is how friends, family and everyone outside the official support team can follow the race safely on Saturday, August 1, 2026 — and help us keep Norseman safe, fair and fun.
Norseman Xtreme Triathlon starts in Eidfjord at 05:00 on race morning, when the athletes leap from the ferry into the Hardangerfjord. From there, it is a 226 km point-to-point journey — 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike over Hardangervidda, and a 42.2 km run that finishes on top of Mt. Gaustatoppen for the first 160 athletes and at Bygget, Gaustablikk for the remaining athletes. Following parts of it in person is part of the magic. Following it well means knowing where to be, and where not to be.

Norseman runs on true sportsmanship — if you witness an emergency, help. For an urgent, life-threatening situation, call 113 (the national emergency number).
Thank you for being part of the team behind the athletes. See you on the course.
@ José Luis Hourcade / NXTRI
Do not shadow and follow athletes all the way from Eidfjord to the finishline. This will increase amount of cars in the course and create more traffic and overtakings of other cars, support cars and athletes. The road is open, but this can put the event in high risk. If you like the event, don`t do this.
Don't bring small children up Mt. Gausta.
Don't count on the lift down — it is prioritised for athletes.
Don't underestimate the Mt. Gausta: expect strong wind, rain and around 2-8°C at the top. Even if it`s nice weather when you start the hike up.
dont`s:
Establish a camp in the course on Friday or Saturday and find a spot to cheer on all athletes when they pass you. We highly recommend to find a spot in an uphill section. Make sure to park the car with all four wheels outside the road. Follow our live updates from the course on YouTube and social media while waiting for the athletes. Link to racemap here.
do`s:
RECOMMENDED SPOTS ON THE FIRST PART OF THE RUN 0-32 KM:
AUSTBYGDE (Transition between bike and run)
Best possible time for the first athlete: 10:35 CEST.
Austbygde (Transition 2) is located right by Sandviken Camping and it`s fairly easy to find a parking spot within walking distance of the T2 area. It`s also possible to buy food in Austbygde, easy access to toilets and at T2 there will also be speaker service. If it’s nice weather, we recommend bringing what you need for a refreshing swim in Lake Tinnsjøen.
@ Sylvain Cavatz / NXTRI
Zombie Hill (25 - 32 km after run start)
Best possible time for the first athlete: 12:20 CEST.
Park in bottom of Zombie Hill where there is a huge parking area for support teams and spectators. We recommend to cheer on the athletes at the very start of Zombie Hill or bike/walk up in the hill and find a good spot in one of the U-turns.
@ Sylvain Cavatz / NXTRI
Team B.O.B (32 km after run start)
Best possible time for the first athlete: 13:05 CEST.
Team B.O.B must be experienced. They are loud, friendly and athletes will cry when passing them. We recommend to park at Gaustablikk and use the shuttle bus to 32 km Langefonn or bike from Gaustablikk (approx. 4 kilometers).
@ Ariel Wojciechowski / NXTRI
Stavsro (37,5 km after run start)
Best possible time for the first athlete: 13:35 CEST.
Stavsro is the cutoff point for the black-and-white finish lines at Norseman. The first 160 athletes here will finish at Mt. Gausta (if the weather conditions allow it). The parking there will be closed from 13:00 on raceday, alternative parking is at Gaustablikk. Read more here. There will be shuttle buses from Gaustablikk to Stavsro and Gaustabanen from 10:00. It`s also possible to hike up to Mt. Gausta (4,8 km of rocky trail). Bring hiking boots, waterproof pant and jacket, wool, hat and down jacket. The normal weather up here in August is 8 Celsius, wind and rain.
@ Tobias Gjerde / NXTRI
Mt. Gausta (42,2 km after run start)
Best possible time for the first athlete: 14:25 CEST.
Read the Dont`s (scroll up). It`s possible to buy a ticket for the Gaustabanen lift up and down, but remember that athletes will have first priority down. If you want to hike from Stavsro to Mt. Gausta: Park your car at Gaustablikk and use one of the shuttle buses to Stavsro or Gaustabanen. Parking at Stavsro will be reserved for Norseman support cars from 13:00 until late evening. Read more here. There will be speaker service at the black finish line.

White finish line at Bygget (42,2 km after run start)
Best possible time for first white finisher: 19:30 CEST.
Best possible time for the first athlete if Mt. Gausta is closed: 13:55 CEST.
Food service at Bygget from 13:00 to 16:00 CEST. Bar from 13:00 to 02:00, but might close earlier.
This is the perfect location to watch the last finishers at Norseman.
